The Government of Indonesia intends to renegotiate with South Korea about the joint project of making KF-X / IF-X warplanes, as reported by the Anadolu, 09/13/2018.
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Wiranto claimed to have been ordered by Indonesian President Joko Widodo to lead the 4.5-generation fighter jet development negotiation team.
However, Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Wiranto was reluctant to mention what points would be negotiated with the South Korean Government.
“We will reorganize, things that are about to be important records,” Wiranto told Anadolu Agency at the College of Police Science (STIK), Jakarta, Thursday.
Furthermore, Coordinating Minister for Politics and Security Wiranto will also affirm to the South Korean government that the Indonesian government is able to cooperate in developing the project.
The Korean Fighter eXperimental (KF-X) and Indonesian Fighter eXperimental (IF-X) project was originally a fifth-generation fighter aircraft development program, which has capabilities such as the US-made F-35 stealth jet, but for consideration of one and the thing, then designated as a 4.5 generation aircraft that surpasses F-16 and F-18 fighter aircraft made in the United States (US).
In its creation, the Indonesian Government involved PT Dirgantara Indonesia. To finance the project, the Indonesian government is obliged to bear a budget of 20 percent, while 80 percent is borne by the South Korean government and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
It is planned that the development project will last until 2026. The budget that has been issued by Indonesia until 2016 for the project is 21.6 trillion in Rupiah.
